| Michigan restaurant fires three over hanging noose Tue, 22 Apr 2008 21:40 CDT Michigan restaurant fires three over hanging noose The manager and two employees of a steak restaurant near Bay City have been fired over the hanging of a noose in view of a black cook. A spokesman for Wichita-based Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon Inc. said the restaurant fired the three men. Rich Van Warner told The Bay City Times the noose incident doesn't reflect the culture of the restaurant chain. The restaurant is in Bay County's Bangor Township. Police said a co-worker pointed out the noose hanging in the boiler room to the cook, 34-year-old Joe Hill of Bay City. |

McHenry, a sophomore from Jefferson City, finished the tournament with a 208, edging teammate Dustin Garza by four strokes. The Shockers dominated the tournament at the Davenport Country Club in Davenport, Iowa. They burst out to a 15-stroke lead after Monday's two rounds. Tuesday, WSU finished with a 284 to win by 24 strokes over Southern Illinois. WSU's Ryan Spears (214) finished in a tie for fourth. Zach Potter (219) finished in a tie for ninth. Ty Sanders (224) tied for 15th. The Shockers won their 13th MVC title and their seventh since 1999. McHenry is the 13th Shocker to win medalist honors. |
| Rock Road liquor store robbed Tue, 22 Apr 2008 11:25 CDT A lone gunman robbed Aboud's Retail Liquor at 955 S. Rock Road late Monday night, police said. The suspect entered the store at 10:21 p.m., pulled out a black handgun and demanded money from the register. The clerk opened the register and the suspect pulled cash from the till before leaving and walking southwest of the store, police said. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male about 25 years old, 5-feet-10 and 185 pounds. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with black trim and blue jeans. |
| Council agrees to buy land at 21st and Broadway Tue, 22 Apr 2008 11:45 CDT The Wichita City Council today agreed to purchase land in north Wichita to make room for left-hand turn lanes and traffic signals and improve roads at the 21st and Broadway intersection. The unanimous vote was part of its consent agenda, and -- as is typical for consent items -- was not discussed. Under the agreement, the city could pay about $30,000 to acquire the property that now houses Cy's TV Service Inc. Altogether, the city aims to buy seven properties in the area for the intersection project. |
