| Man dies after he falls from skid loader LUDELL — A 38-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening after falling out of the skid loader he was driving.According to the Rawlins County Sheriff’s Office, the man, whose name was not being released, was using the skid loader to clear a lot in Ludell when he lost control of the machine and fell out of the cab and became pinned between the arm of the loader and the frame.A 911 call was received at 8:26 p.m., and several local agencies worked to free the man from the loader. He was taken to Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood, where he was pronounced dead. |
| Boy falls into old water meter hole, cuts leg A 12-year-old Salina boy who was walking to the swimming pool with a friend was injured Wednesday when a clay pipe supporting a manhole cover he stepped on broke and he fell.The boy’s friend flagged down a Salina police car at Prescott and Third at 3:54 p.m., shortly after the boy got hurt. The officer applied direct pressure to a cut on the boy’s lower right leg that was about 4 inches long and an inch wide in the center, said Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield.The boy’s mother took him to Salina Regional Medical Center for treatment.Mansfield said as the boys were walking to the pool, he stepped on a manhole cover in front of 660 S. Third. The clay pipe that supported the cover gave way, and the boy fell into an old water meter hole. His leg was cut on the broken clay pipe. |
